When McCartney first heard the Spector version of this song, he was outraged. Nine days after Spector had overdubbed "The Long and Winding Road", McCartney formally announced the Beatles' breakup. He said he was shocked because of the fact that they had added things to the song (horns, women singing and an orchestra) without telling him, George Martin said it was an uncharacteristic sound for the band. McCartney took the case to court, blaming business manager Allen Klein and citing, among six other reasons for the Beatles breakup, the fact that Klein's company, caused "intolerable interference" by overdubbing "The Long and Winding Road" without consulting him.
