“Released in early 1970. Phil Spector produced it with his familiar "wall of sound" style. The original single featured Klaus Voorman,(bass), Alan White (drums) who are both in this Top Of The Pops recording, plus George Harrison and Billy Preston. This was the first live appearance by any "Beatle" since 1966 on TOTP and has John singing live to a specially prepared instrumental backing track, which the rest of the band mimed to! Two versions of the song were recorded on the same day, this one featuring Yoko crocheting and the other with her holding up different "cue cards". Both have Yoko "wearing" a Kotex towel as a blindfold, she was later quoted as saying, "That thing I did in Instant Karma blindfold with Kotex while I was knitting behind John who was at the piano singing - was my performance art piece to let people know the position of women in the world."....... We all shine on......”

As it is Yoko's birthday, it seems appropriate to make this one our new jam. Released this week in 1970, it would rocket up the charts and eventually become the first million seller of the post Beatles era by a member of the group. And it just happens to be one of my faves from John from any era! Shine on people!
