@leejohnson@kemiladashdot Well I guess I was thinking that this maybe comes under the No Wave umbrella which is kind of post-punk really, and also that Lydia Lunch is almost a category of her own. But if we want to call it punk, then we can call it punk. Punk it is.
but you can't subdivide too much or every jam would have to go before the comittee and that takes months, You can't be a category on your own, that messes up the system, even if you have to go under miscellaneous. Them there's the rules or else it would be anarchy, and that is not what punk is about. @Brownpants
@kemiladashdot Hmm, I see what you mean. Where would rock 'n roll be without a rigid adherence to a pre-designated set of specificities and regulations governing our engagement with it? I'm glad we have such things otherwise I wouldn't know what to think about anything and if there's one lesson punk had for us all it's that thinking is for idiots.
@Brownpants I don't know if you know why Northen Soul is so called. I heard a record shop owner say he started it. He owned a record shop in near Kings Cross (maybe can't quite remember), and on a Saturday football fans from the north would come in and buy certain records. So after a while he started to put the records the northerners bought on a Saturday all together under his own heading of Northen soul.
Don't know what that all means,....
Catergorys have their place?..........
@kemiladashdot Did you watch the Paul Mason docu about Northern Soul on BBC2 last night? The record shop owner you're talking about was on there discussing that very thing. Excellent documentary, well worth catching on iplayer if you didn't see it.

I hear punk. I can't find another cupboard other than the punk one to put this in. It's punk.
Brownpants
@leejohnson Then we're agreed. Punk it is. P.U.N.K. Punk.
kemiladashdot
Can't imagine where else it could go either, if you didn't have a punk cupboard, you'd have to build one.
