@simonp Am I that predictable? Indeed indeed, Flying Nun's first girl group, iirc. They went to London pretty quickly. This one sounds like the got some help from the Able Tasmans.
@thisismymistake@simonp I need to dig deeper in to Flying Nun's output, so much good stuff on there it seems. Hadn't heard of these guys until yesterday! A shocking oversight on my part. :-D
@Brownpants@simonp A great start are their early compilations. In Love With These Times, Tuatara, Pink Flying Saucers Over the Southern Alps, were lifesavers and waymarkers in the days before the internet. Any chance they're on Spotify?
@thisismymistake In Love With These Times opened up a whole psychedelic world wonderfulness. After buying this album in 1990, I used to refer to the Flying Nun bands as either Side One bands (generally poppier) and Side Two bands (more challenging, experimental). You won't regret discovering more about any of these bands I promise: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Love_with_These_Times
@Brownpants One of the very rare cases where I have to disagree with @simonp. It's really essential to get the digital 19-track version, since all of those bonus tracks are stellar. I Side One is "poppy" and Side Two is "challenging", then Side Bonus is "truly out there"...
@thisismymistake well as I (in a fit of Ludditity) refused to buy a CD player from their general availability until around 2000, if something wasn't available on vinyl it just didn't get bought
@thisismymistake er no. Will the JPS, The Clean, LBGP, Chills, Snapper, Verlaines, Straightjacket Fits, Bats, Sneaky Feelings, Tall Dwarves, Gordons and the Doublehappys make up for it?
@simonp Or more precisely, there's still lots of gems waiting to be discovered (Note to self Don't type while riding the U-Bahn).
I still bought lots of vinyl until the 1990s even though I got my first CD player in 1985. But Flying Nun was a label that could make it really frustrating to be a vinyl buyer. I remember buying the Tall Dwarfs compilation on vinyl which featured a lot of anti-CD propaganda on the inner sleeve. 3 months later it was released on CD with something like 20 bonus tracks.
