I am very fond of MBV and it is lovely to have them back but have to admit that I haven't listened to the album in its entirety yet. Certainly on my to do list. p.s I am glad that you enjoyed the Horizon and your thoughts were a pleasure to read.
@abigail.deeks 'm b v' is a luxuriant and sumptuous album, it does require a certain amount of application on behalf of the listener but it is one of those 'drift away into yourself' albums.
@Bukowski Never finished our pedant's conversation! Had to head off to London for work... back early this morning and my eyes are showing the strain...
@Bukowski I anticipated that I would need to fully immerse myself in it. Don't want to spoil the 'drift away into myself' with interuptions. I have Saturday free of little people so I may be able to indulge in some luxuriant and sumptuous noise then :)
Blast - I've just deleted that post by mistake. Dolt!! Essentially, no: Stones is fine. Only if you were referring to a specific track would you possibly need a possessive 's'; as it is, 'Stones' functions as a proper noun in this case. So if you were saying 'My favourite Dylan track you wouldn't be adding an 's' - meaning here, you don't need one either'. Sorry, @Bukowski, my brain's a bit rubbish today, and grammar is my area so I should be clearer!
It's also adjectival (meaning that if you could replace 'Stones with, say, 'happy', which can't take an 's', then equally you couldn't add an 's' to 'Stones' - but that opens up a whole further avenue of discussion).
@AlicejustMay I had a bit of a rant yesterday whilst you were gadding your way off down south to see those......no, better not, in that there London thingy. It was concerning those nerdy types, of which I am a part, who create their Top 100 Albums Of All Time lists but who include the caveat One Album per Artist. Surely this is a contradiction in terms, it is NOT their favourite albums of all time if they have imposed this, what seems to me at least, constraint. Just thought I would let you know
Ooh, I have to say I'm with you there. I was only discussing lists yesterday - top 10 game-changing albums: ie, the albums that have changed the way we listen in some way. What would be yours? I can see @dutchzaphod having a thing or to to say about this...
mbv gets better with every listen. Always been one of my fave bands and was great to see them again after so many years in Manchester a couple of weeks ago.
@AlicejustMay Top Ten 'game-changing' albums:-
Robert Johnson - 'King Of The Delta Blues Singers'
Elvis Presley - 'The Sun Sessions'
Miles Davis - 'Kind Of Blue'
Bob Dylan - 'Highway 61 Revisited'
The Velvet Underground - 'The Velvet Underground & Nico'
Joni Mitchell - 'Blue'
The Sex Pistols - 'Never Mind The Bollocks'
The Smiths - 'The Queen Is Dead'
Nirvana - 'Nevermind'
Radiohead - 'Kid A'
@Bukowski That's a fascinating list. It's prompted me to change my jam and ask the question over on my page. Would you mind repeating your list on mine as well? I can imagine it'll spark quite a few thoughts... and when you get the chance I want to know why you've chosen them. I'm still assembling mine, as I ended up sleeping more or less the rest of the evening and am a bit behind the curve this morning. x
@AlicejustMay
Reason for choice:-
1) The beginning of Blues/Rock; no Robert Johnson, no Led Zeppelin!
2) THE Rock 'n' Roll album
3) Jazz changes the way we listen
4) Beatnik poetry meets the history of music
5) Avant-garde join in
6) Feminism has a voice
7) The ultimate 'yes I can' album
8) It's ok to be a nerd
9) Feedback has a melody
10) Push all of the boundaries

@AlicejustMay Fair enough. Pick the bones out of this. My favourite Stones track Should it be Stones' track?
Bukowski
@abigail.deeks You will space away.

@AlicejustMay That is brilliant! Gold star. Thank you.

@AlicejustMay You should be a teacher. That has cleared it up perfectly. OR 'Revise, encapsulate and conclude' as it says in the teacher manual.

Off to have my tea now. Dozed off on the sofa. Shall consider my top 10 meanwhile.

Definitely a contender for album of the year. Gets better with each play.
iMatthew_
Agree w/ the "it gets better with every play" comments. It's not Loveless (nothing could ever be again), but it's damn great!
Bukowski
@iMatthew_ @AndyWilkinson Agreed. It is becoming very 'moreish'.
Bukowski
@jaxxon A friend of mine went to see them last week and said; "it was like having your brain turned into wet cake."
