December 2005 saw a rare instance of @MOJOmagazine issuing a different cover in the US and it actually making more sense than the original UK cover—at least when it came to the covermount (Kate Bush was the cover star in Britain). The Roots of Hendrix is a compilation focusing on songs that inspired the Seattle guitarist, and much of it runs toward electric blues by the likes of B. B. King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, and other such folks who simply aren't my cup of tea. This Little Richard side, then, was particularly refreshing to me. Recorded in 1965 for Vee Jay, a decade after his heyday on Specialty, this ballad actually features Hendrix on guitar. Hendrix served in Richard's touring band for just about a year before claiming fame on his own, and this is the only official release on which the two appeared together.   6
