hi miz party...my little billy story was to convey that even when he was at his lowest, record company's wanted to sign billy, paul morley was the person at ZTT that had the most vision, and will to follow thru on his instincts, paul wanted to sign billy, like i say, a lot of water ha passed under that bridge since that period , i was a whippersnapper at the time and did not really pay that much attention to the detail, billy was a one off, a singular fellow of quite unique talents.
spoke to a friend from that era, told me that claudia brucken and andrew poppy [ both great musicians ] played at billy's memorial concert, claudia was married to paul morley for a while, i think the appreciation of BM was big and real at ZTT, im told details of tribute gig are online.
@kingofmen I think Paul Morley grew up near me in glorious sunny Manchester - Stockport side. I like some of the things he's written/been part of. His instincts were right, not many like him (BM) tho I did adore Jeff Buckley and thought his voice was reminiscent. Hadn't encountered whippersnaper (I'm sure John Peel played them though) ;) Heard of Andrew Poppy don't know why but will look up.
@kingofmen Well, with Kate Bush we go back a long way (although she doesn't know me). The Kick Inside was the first album I ever bought with my own money (I should be talking to 6music now), and I was completely captivated by it and her. It still remains my favourite album by her although I love many others. She featured at our wedding (sadley not in person!!!) and in my 6th form years I was known as 'aka Kate' (hair similarities ;)) If I could post all of her first 5 albums I would maybe I will
paul turns up on telly now, all post modern and attentive to the needs of the many voiceless punters, ahahaa, yeah he is from manchester, andrew poppy does big glorious arrangements, dunno what claudia is up to these days, she and paul got divorced ages ago i think...
