@thisismymistake excellent links thank you. Yes, it does all seem rather odd/ironic. At odds with my usual mantra I have to say I do prefer the Lee/Nancy version despite the fact he probably (yes definitely) recorded this to get more attention (just after Boots I believe). I love the impact of their version. Virgil also looks rather Chris Tarrant like which is a shame (I tried hard not to notice). Following your links also led me to the depressing new knowledge that Lana Del Ray has covered it.

I love a bit of Nancy. I believe the Hazlewood's arrangements have been a huge influence on Tinderstick's music.
