@lindatee @aliasjae @heatherrings Yes to all, and I hope you could stand that I played the with the lyrics version. I just wanted the words to speak as well as the music.
@PeteLaberge Wonderful. Very interesting about the Spanish ships btw. But I'm not sure about the Dudley/ Darnley confusion. I mean wasn't QE1 the plaything of Robert Dudley? Completely agree about Mary's taste in men - a shocker. All brilliant stuff. Even The Zombies :)
@alisonsghost Yes, the weather and a number of brave sailors in some small Brit ships, went out and defeated the much bigger and more powerful ships of the Armada. If you go to the HT's Youtube page on that, and scroll down you will learn much from the discussions, there. I will try reproduce, in edited form, tha salient points below....
@alisonsghost Q: Hold on, they fell to wind & rain. Good Ol' British Weather, saving us again?
A: Actually, Spain ships were huge, heavy, lumbering. Brit ships were small, nimble, very maneuverable. Plus, Spain were overconfident. English - desperate. Brits fired flaming "bombs" at Spain ships. Spain cannon were up so high, they fired over Brit ships! Then, wi/ Spanish ships on fire, then came the storm. Brits had home port advantage. Spain had to retreat across channel... Bad scene.
@alisonsghost To HT's: Wait a min here: U mention Dudley in "Mary, Queen of Scots". And U mention Dudley here, for QE-I. Pardon me 4 being real slow student, (about 2x yUr age!), but we talkin'bout the same Dudley? Been a while since school days, forgive my ignorance... or forgetful old brain. Did I just add 2+2, & everybody else knew answer= 4, already?
REPLY: U R on 2 something, but in error RE Mary - in that song we mention "Darnley", her creepy her creepy husband...
@alisonsghost CONT: however, Dudley in this song= Robert, Earl of Leicester...rumored to have been Elizabeth's love and even a wife murderer (there's much debate)...and Liz offered him up to her cousin Mary (an insult? to ensure peace?) but she did not end up with him.
REPLY: Ah! So sorry! 2 names= very similar! Either way, seems Dudley, was involved (as U state) wi/both royals. Yes, from the song, and what little I've read, Darnley sounds creepy.
@alisonsghost COT: You'd think Mary would have better taste! And "poor" Dudley. Passed around "tween queens" like a pawn! Hah! Anybody ever remark that Brit Royal History is/was insanely complicated? Oh, well, takes nothing away from the songs!
And there you go. The comments from their youtube channel (I had to edit them down to fit in the format allowed here!)
@PeteLaberge I actually had a look at the History Teacher's wonderful song and the discussions just after I'd listened to The Zombies. That's why I mentioned the Armada. If it hadn't been for the dodgy death of Amy Robsart it is not entirely impossible that Elizabeth might have attempted to marry Dudley- but she was too clever in the end. It would have been a deeply unpopular move. Offering him to Mary might have been a sop to him. I love The History Teachers. Thanks.
@LennonsLoveyyy Glad you liked it! it is a great song! With a great tune.
(Both great words and great music are needed for something really great.)
