Brrrrrrrrrr!!!! ...... What an amazing tale! I've never heard that side of it before. I'm wondering how you get to hear of these stories! :-) Great to hear this song again, too!
@SheRa According to this, the last movie he watched was 'The Abominable Dr. Phibes', on the morning of his death ... http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/pages/keith_moon I just hope Cass Elliot didn't do the same....I've always liked that movie
Whoa. Hard to believe I never heard about any of that, other than both stars' premature deaths, before now. You're getting some momentum with this theme - perhaps it will be an easy one to keep going. :)
I am a huge Moon and Nilsson fan and so knew the story. They go into great detail about it in the official BBC The Who doco that aired the year before last. He lived his life to the fullest. The Tony Fletcher autobiography on Moon is one of those books where you can flip open any page and there is just something crazy happening. My fav stories re. Keith are always the ones involving Oliver Reed: http://dangerousminds.net/comments/incredible_friendship_oliver_reed_keith_moon
It is also said he just never got over the fact that he accidentally killed his chauffeur and that is why he went even more out in excess mid 70s. It is so ironic that the pills that killed him were the ones he was taking for alcohol withdrawal while detoxing.
@Cleops Whoa - thanks for the additional information. I will have to check out that documentary. The Oliver Reed story is nuts! But hell, with a shotgun pointed at me, I would have reconsidered my "stay" as well. -
@Cleops As far as all the pills, I am of the opinion that there are some doctors out there that are worse than any "street" pharmacist ever was - some of them want to hook you and keep you enslaved...
@ssrock HA. Thanks - I have a couple other things, not all are about weird death coincidences - I am glad you are enjoying it. It is not as easy as other themes I have done in the past...
@SheRa - Absolutely. There's been so many cases of docs just shilling out dodgy prescriptions for celebs over the years. From what I remember with Moon it was him not disclosing the full extent of his issues to his doc & the doctor not fully checking into Moon before giving him the pills. Moon was so ill the last few years & bloated tho. I remember the famous interview with his old Malibu neighbour Larry Hagman who found he had shat everywhere (walls/floor) and had to revive & drive him to rehab
@Cleops and these "Docs" are never brought up on charges - I know that as the patient we ultimately have the responsibility for ourselves but in the weird celebrity world they turn over so much to "handlers" and "staff" they just stop making decisions for themselves...like in the MJ case..too much trust not enough common sense.
