Some of the best music ever made - started in the 60s in Northern England, achieved almost cult-like status and still very popular now. Is mainly American soul music in origin but it had a certain 'sound' that instantly set it apart from other types of soul and pop. Check out some of the many Northern Soul compilations on Spotify - you won't be disappointed. It even has its own dance - the Dallas Smoke Shuffle.
@kerlmann So I just listened to a couple examples of Northern Soul and it's something I've loved forever but never knew the name of this specific genre! There's some definite American sounds coming out of there. The Dallas Smoke Shuffle...I'll need to Youtube this one. It almost sounds like two-stepping :P This is great, thanks so much for opening a door in music history for me.
