I was given a free copy of Daydream Nation on vinyl from a local radio station. Because, at the time, I didn't like it very much, I gave it to a friend. *sobs*
@thisismymistake When I saw the Richter retrospective at the Neue Nationalgalerie last April, there was a big huddle of artpunks around the candle paintings.
This was the first song I remember hearing from Sonic Youth. It blew me away the first time I heard it and it's still probably my favourite track of theirs and "Daydream Nation" is my favourite Sonic Youth albums and one of the best albums ever.
I love this and the album but my fave will always be Kool Thing. One of my all time faves. Had a friend called Mark who insisted on being called Sonic during the Daydrean Nation era we just laughed and danced. Saw Sonic Youth around 2001. They had an experimental (of course) approach to the gig.
This is kind of a gateway drug for the Youth, so insanely catchy. "Daydream Nation" is a big favorite of mine, but the one I seem to play the most is "A Thousand Leaves."

One of the greatest albums of all time; a classic.

Also the album that introduced me to Gerhard Richter.

Tells you how to be laid back yet still engaged, hopeful yet realistic. Fucking wonderful song.

Played a great set in '95 Lolapalooza in Chicago. I think the only band that rocked that hard that year was The Jesus Lizard

Ah the memories. I saw them at Glasgow uni in1989. Got trampled half to death by large men then woke up next day quite ill with the chicken pox. :)
