The eerie dissonance of the trumpet resiliently playing that G#, even as the song switches keys from the E major to D minor (in D minor, that G# forms the tritone, a.k.a. “the devil in music” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tritone#Historical_uses), is sooooo good. Compelling, intriguing, uncomfortable. Particularly considering the funkiness of the song more generally.
