@UncannyUK Their new album is extraordinary. A bitch patchy, but the first thing it does is slam you in the guts with that song in the unexpurgated version. I was still crying by the last track!!
@lucathequietone On the album it sounded quite complex, but I was concentrating on the scansion. I'll try and tap it out the way we did in music lessons!
@alisonsghost well, I was cheating. I searched for the lyrics at songmeanings.com and I found a comment from Patrick, who submitted the lyrics himself btw, about the time signature of this song.
@lucathequietone I've never found a decent song meaning/lyrics site, so I'll bookmark that one. Do you know what 6/8 time is?? All I can think of is 2 waltzes stuck together! At least if they are 3/4 time. I've forgotten now :)
@alisonsghost definitely I am not an expert about tempos. According to Wikipedia the 6/8 time signature is a compound double time signature used for jigs, polkas, barcarolles etc.
@lucathequietone That's interesting - the song doesn't really have a polka or jig subject, somehow. He does count in at the beginning of this version so I'll listen with more attention next time. I love oddments of information like this :)

@thisismymistake Is that good or bad? At my school if you got 2 reports you ended up in detention!

@thisismymistake In fact that has made me hilariously proud.

@thisismymistake Was tired last night and forgot to say 'thank you'. This band is one that deserves to know they are appreciated.

This is absolutely great. And in 6/8 time, if I'm not mistaken.

interesting jam! Thanks.
alisonsghost
@PeteLaberge The word 'interesting' can be so damning :) Thanks for listening, though.
