@thisismymistake I've only recently stopped living in Portsmouth and I think one of the ferries was called Pride Of Cherbourg - bet you really wanted to know that :) They are normally a pretty dynamic and political band tho' have a horrible feeling they've split up :( I don't speak French - do they sound very Dick Van Dyke ??
@alisonsghost About a ferry ride to Portsmouth, from Cherbourg presumably (maybe on the Pride of Cherbourg?), and the singer waiting that her lover will break up with her. Nothing political. I think they're doing a pretty decent job, but I'm not a native French speaker...
@alisonsghost (rough translation)
ah when we finish the crossing
to portsmouth my heart will be pierced
i'm sure of it
i see his nervous fidgeting
i know the words that he will deliver
i know them well
(...)
portsmouth finally
here we docked
everything is so gray
as i imagined
streets awaken, repel sleep
they open an eye and everything is the same
i was wrong to worry
you did not tell me
announced anything, renounced nothing
you destroyed nothing
@thisismymistake Well, they didn't sound like the Queen or Tony Blair so I thought I'd take the risk as to hear anyone from the UK try to speak another language is rare.I'll jam something else by them sometime. Thanks for the lyrics! It was always gorgeous and sunny when I lived there, tho' it's beauty isn't conventional:)
@alisonsghost Francoiz is a goddess which may only be spoken of in hushed tones in my household, so no, I would not take a cover of this by Tony Blair lightly.
@thisismymistake I'm glad I didn't Blairize your goddess - I'll have to listen to her properly. Those lyrics are rather lovely. The slight worry left hanging in the air...

They sound a bit like Francoiz when she sings My Wedding Man, but lovely effort. Put a smile on my face... :)

(She's from Cherbourg btw, right across the Channel from Portsmouth)
