You and me both and this is new to me. Are you by any chance familiar with Gomez? They're one of my very favorite bands of all time and although there are no less than three very talented and diverse singer/songwriters in the band (churning out rollicking rock, blues, electronic or folk with ease), it features one Ben Ottewell who happens to possess one of the most powerful, raspy and beautiful singing voices in the biz. It feels like I might have brought them up to you in the past, but oh well.
They've fallen into a more consistent, mellow streak with their last couple of albums, which are still good, but I do miss the more fun, experimental side of their first few albums ('98 - '06). Anyway, it's very hard to pick just one, so here are a couple. A little on the trippy side: http://youtu.be/TsT-yyIfFmw. One of their more popular: http://youtu.be/S8bDpzpDVu4. And a stunning live performance: http://youtu.be/W-YLanLBOe8. Alright, forcing myself to stop. :)
@shiningsun2k Just listened to Gomez, really liked How We Operate, the drums and banjo are great and it has a "grunge type softer sound." Guess I had listened to them before (probably on Spotify Radio Elliot Smith) as "Get Miles" was starred. Really enjoyed the diversity of the music, thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed it and that happens to me all the time - looking up an artist for what I think if the first time only to see that I've already starred a song or two and followed them on Spotify. It's usually because I'd already heard the song on here. I only gave you tracks featuring Ben 'cause of your raspy voice theme. They are far more diverse when including the others.
