I've enjoyed KNRK when visiting the Portland area. It's been a few years, but Mark Hamilton, who used to dj on San Francisco's Live 105, was on air and they played a much better mix of music than I was hearing in the Bay Area at the time.
New to me and very nice. Thank you! I feel your pain! I was in the mood for modern rock one day on my drive home from work and every "modern rock" station (three of them) was playing something from the '90s or earlier. Not bad songs, but c'mon. I guess that's what a lot of people want though - familiar classics. Nothing new. I like my classics too, but there's gotta be a better ratio if you're calling yourself a modern rock station.
Oh and the worst is the station that used to be on the speakers at work. It was "favorites from today and yesterday - five decades of great music" and I swear they played the same fifty songs every f'ing day. I'd listen to my own music with headphones most of the day and I'd still hear the same damn songs when I took them off. Unacceptable. Okay, end of rant. :)
@christineb I thought the best radio in the world was in the USA?...and to @shiningsun2k ...calm down! ( haha! ....actually, I know exactly how you feel..) :)
@debutchhttp://www.947.fm/ I love that you can go to their page and vote up or down songs you want to hear, they have a lot of local music scene they play also~
Love that Chrissy. Now stalking you on Twitter! What a great 'station recommendation' and I'm on it like a rash. Love radio, when it's fresh and a non-repetitive playlist. Cheers missy... :-D
@christineb Haha. Not the biggest Twitterer myself Chrissy...more of a Twitter Ninja. I comment rather than tweet the way. Anyhoo, what a stonkin' radio station. I've been listening since I read your post. Guess I owe you one for that...now what the heck could that be... ;-D
@shiningsun2k You can rant anytime you want dear, my wall can be your personal soapbox!! NRK isn't perfect they will replay the "hits" but its not every hour and like yesterday, they infused it with the Chili Peppers, Nirvana, The Dead Kennedys and a few more from the 90's in one hour. It's a nice little mix, they have the local finds "two at two' which spotlights the local bands and their Sunday shows are killer. I actually was "on" the show. You can pick your Five at Five and come up and
Was listening to the album last night and there are loads of good tunes on it. I got it on the strength of this song and wasn't proved wrong. Will stick something by him up again...

<3 KNRK, though I live slightly too far away to tune in to it on the regular. Spiffy jam!

@daftmonk Mark is still the station director, he fills as DJ quite a bit. They also search out and play quite a bit from the local music scene.

with the DJ, you then explain your picks and win tickets or such, was about four years ago but extremely cool

Okay, that really does sound like a cool station. I love that they highlight local artists, too.
