So, I've realized how cool it is to find small good musicians. I've contacted a few of them on Facebook, commented on what they're saying and they respond back. It feels great buying their music because you feel that there's a person behind, not just a big label. It just popped into my head - I was thinking of earlier discussions we've had...
Anyway, I like your jam, I haven't heard of The Bug before, so not a classic to me, but it's cool!
@Murich Oh wow, I've never even thought about doing that, I wouldn't know what to say. I only ever seem to find musicians when they are getting big anyway. It probably doesn't help that all my music comes through Spotify.
Thank you. I've been posting more electronic stuff recently, and I don't think it's indie enough for most people to like it, but nevermind. They were the first dubstep artist I got into, about four or five years ago. This and 'Poison Dart' were the stand-out tracks for me.
You might be onto something there, but then again, some of the things here are too "indie" for me. I can be a bit put off by some songs where the melody is on the verge of nonexistent and the singer really isn't all that great. Then again, that's probably more of my taste than the actual quality (though sometimes I wonder). You get used to "that type" of music too, though and learn to tolerate it more and more and perhaps even start to like it. ;) (It's hard to find examples on the fly).
@Murich I have too eclectic a music taste. I can go from acoustic to classical to death metal to ambient to drum & bass. If people like my jam one time, it may not be likely they'll link the next.
Some songs people post can be beautiful or brilliant but I just don't like them, whereas other tracks can sound awful to everyone but I think they're brilliant.
@Murich I guess that's part of the fun of this site. You can either post something that people most people may dislike, but have a connection with them that way. Or post something you know everyone will like, and connect with a large group of people that all enjoy the same great thing.
Plus, all the best songs are ones that you have to get used to, and let them grow on you. Whereas the ones you like straight away can sometimes get boring or irritating quickly.
@Murich I find indie bland generally, but maybe I don't give it enough of a chance. There are some great indie bands and songs. I've only really properly got into acoustic music recently, so that seems to be growing all the time with new artists I hear.
Personal taste is a strange thing, especially when it's someone else's that differs from yours.
I think that when I wrote "get used to" I meant more going against your own taste or inclination "to not like something" more than the music having layers that you just haven't unearthed yet. If there's no objective good or bad music, and in a way I think that might be the case, one could argue that to not like is to not understand the greatness of the music. Yet, there are properties in music that gives it appeal, and if those properties are missing then you're probably not going to like it.
For me, most of the music I love, I know very early on that I like and then that "like" grows pretty rapidly into something greater. Then again, many pop-songs on the radio are catchy and fun but in some way lack a "soul". They have a great rhythm and they stick in your head, but they're simple songs and like you mentioned you get tired of them quickly. I often find them catchy but seldom love them and if it's a "one hit wonder" you can't even enjoy an album of the musician.

I was going to write a bit more, but I really need to go to bed. :) It was nice talking to you!
