Agreed and I was a little nervous going in 'cause I've been a big fan since the first album and had high hopes. So far, 'Lasers' is the only album of his I don't love, and that still has a few tracks I really like.
@sshop I haven't really gotten into Lupe before this album dropped tbh, even though I saw his name mentioned frequently around the web. Is his other stuff worth checking out, considering I loved Tetsuo & Youth?
Absolutely. I'll be honest and say his debut, 'Food and Liquor', is good, but it didn't do it for me initially with the exception of a couple of standout tracks. 'The Cool' took a minute to grow on me as well, but ended up being one of my favorite hip-hop albums. 'Lasers' disappointed me because it's like they dumped the same production from whatever was popular in the mainstream at the time into it and was just fell flat except for a couple songs, and then Food & Liquor 2 blew my mind.
F & L 2 has one track that seemed unnecessary in that it feels like a typical "this is for the mainstream kids" song, but other than that, it's fantastic from the get go. Too early to tell if T & Y will compare in the long run, but I like that it doesn't seem to have a cookie cutter pop track on it and I'm loving it so far. Also, Lupe left his label after 'Lasers', confirming my suspicions that the label took the reigns and that's why it was such an uninspired mess compared to his others.
