My last jam was cut short 'cos it wasn't really doing it as a "countdown" jam.......needed a LOT more OOOOOMMPHHH!!!...........THis one is a mess......it's chaotic....it's all OVER the place but to me, it's the sheer excitement of REAL rock 'n' roll and from THAT moment , ( 53 seconds) it all just makes me feel so good to be alive!! :-D
You are absolutely right about the chaos -- compare with the same song from three years earlier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P10LVJeVKKo
They were in a crazy spiral that would end with Keith's Toronto arrest and then getting their act together with Some Girls.
@paulgdaly This is funny because although I can hear that the band is tighter in the 1972 version, more cohesive, more in tune & more in control, I STILL prefer this one!! I think it's because I'm a sucker for madness & mayhem. I like it when things get dangerous and are on the point of collapse and then suddenly & unexpectedly, some exhilarating music comes spouting out against the odds ( like the point from 53 secs that I mentioned) THAT to me is thrilling & the very essence of R & R!!
@paulgdaly It makes me laugh when I remember Mick saying he didn't like doing this one live 'cos it was too fast! He said that singing this & trying to cavort on stage left him out of breath! haha! Poor thing! :-)
@debutch check out the Brussels '73 show which they officially released last year. As Keith says "we're playing so fast, fair play to Mick for keeping up!"
@debutch I get what you mean about the chaos. One night in Philly they were three songs in and the power went out. Jagger absolutely lost it with the crew and when they came back on they were in a fury, blazing through the set. Opening night of the tour. They were tremendous.
@paulgdaly ...I only saw the Stones twice. The first time in '76 at Knebworth was a huge disappointment. They seemed jaded & going through the motions. Yet, two years ago at Hyde Park, they were THIRTY SEVEN years older & the "spark" was present! Fantastic night! ( and sharing it with my 2 grown-up kids was just magic!)......you never know what you're going to get with the Stones!
@debutch well that night in Philadelphia was the start of the '89 tour and they were great. I saw the three more times on that tour. I had already seen them in Slane in Ireland in '82 when they were coming off Some Girls and Tattoo You and played so hard and fast they sounded like a punk band. But the best gigs were two in Madison Sq. Garden in the '90s & 2000s & a great gig at the Beacon Theater.
@paulgdaly@BladeRunner Nothing wrong with chopped liver! ....A most delicious butchers' culinary delight , along with the much underrated giblets & scrag-end, ( you ask @kingofmen ) garnished with garlic & herbs , it's ...oooh, (slobber)
So fillet for Bladey and mines some hanger steak, rare, side of creamed spuds and some creamed spinach. Also a Powers, neat, some water on the side. And there better be dessert

@debutch @BladeRunner you gotta problem with "Bladey"?
BladeRunner
@paulgdaly no ;) i'm just trying to point him that this is not gonna take my attention off from the main point here!
BladeRunner
Actually @paulgdaly, if there's someone who 'morphed' my name into something else, that one is Butch ;)
debutch
@BladeRunner @paulgdaly oh, you mean the time I called you " Bladd-Runner" lol!

paulgdaly
@BladeRunner yes let's not forget the main issue- he dedicated a Stones jam to Jackie. What are we? Chopped liver?
paulgdaly
Yep Stones are my guys.
