Well I came here for some classic Fairport!!!! I was only listening to that track last night as well!!! Listened on previous jams anyway :-)
Very happy to spend some time with Mr Marr though ;-)
With you on the avatar - meditating Animal is going in the archive. He will no doubt make an appearance somewhere else, wherever the hell that might be. All I know is it won't be Nusiki!!
@debutch No prob with Fairport Dave, as I said I had a listen from the link down below. If Nusiki can't cope with your yarns then it's not worth the bother!!!! :-)
A FINE Jam, when I first heard this I thought a bit Daft (he's not singer) but it's an Excellent Jam nonetheless...I guess if his Very Lowness can turn 'em out Live by the dozens (smiffs tunes in his solo career) so can the other half! You know how prickly we fans of the Mozzman can be!
@debutch@christineb Well, I've looked at Nusiki again, I thought I HAD to download their app, but it seems that I CAN sign up on the old laptop. But I still wouldn't be able to use it on my windows phone. I have really enjoyed keeping up to date by having a sneaky look on my phone, especially when I'm away - which as you know is a lot!!!! So phone "compatibility" is quite important for me.
I hope that didn't seem too much like I know what I'm talking about!!! :-D
@timeisnow Oh , of course Stacie, you are a MASSIVE Mozzer fan, aren't you? I think I first noticed you at my Morrissey/ blood & giblets story!! =D Actually, I saw him do this live a couple of months ago in Hyde Park London, supporting The Who. I managed to get right down the front & he was mighty impressive. ( He done "How soon is now?" too)
@BladeRunner YAY!!! Return of the ravens!!! :-) ......hey, hold on, your original avatar was that painting of the blonde woman in red & black, wasn't it?
@christineb At the mo I've signed up to LL, but not posted anything yet. (apart from Beatlemaniacs!) I was beginning to think it would be an acceptable alternative and originally was determined to give it a go to keep us all together. I suppose I'll have a look at GJuke and lurk in the shadows there as well. To be honest, as I said to @21schizoid I feel like my jamming mojo has gone and TIMJ seems very flat. Maybe I'll perk up once this (seemingly endless) Long Goodbye has finished :-)
I'm mightily impressed you saw him support the Who, that's tres cool David! ME? Well sir, you see (shifts in seat, clears throat) Yes...as for your bloody Offal story yes that WAS the 1st time you noticed moi, me oui :))) I like JM don't get me wrong, he's got crazy skills!!! HSIN - yeh I have heard him do that and it is pretty good ;)
@mikelowe Oh good, less confused.(maybe) .wasn't sure how my computer could get on Nusiki and yours couldn't.... but I understand the phone thing TIMJ won't work on my phone, I have to use the web app on my phone
@mikelowe I will be lurking in the shadows also..might be a wee bit down after the music stops....I have signed up to all four?three? (can't remember)...and will troll them all for a bit..like jams..but posting will take a bit.
@debutch no, only those 2 and this one now - I love that Pris one, but i really do believe this "Tippi Hedren-esque" has more to do with me... plus, i got so many compliments when i used it, i think it suited me better ;) x
Impossible to chose 1! It really depends Light, Charming, Difference, Stop Me, Last Night, Death/Disco, Shoplifters, .... It changes, Irish Blood, Jack/Ripper, First of the Gang, Ganglord (so good live), Sunday, i love Squeezing My Skull...but that's like asking me to choose my favorite child if I had 20! strangely no one has really asked me that before...You?
@debutch Great to hear Marr's take on this song that is, for many, the song that really resonated - and there had been plenty of other tracks that had already made us sit up and notice by this point. I was one of those awkward boys, listening to music in his bedroom and feeling separated from peers. The Smiths spoke to me; they were the working men's club and Duran were in the VIP lounge. Loved both bands, but felt Morrissey and Marr were more aligned to reality and the gutter of life. Fab jam!
Certainly from my favourite Smiths album but couldn't decide a favourite track. It certainly says how lost lots of us will feel when this all comes to an end :( x x
Very sad week indeed. I am on LL and GJ and so I am not completely AWOL once TIMJ closes down. Thanks for all the good times so far all of the above and especially @debutch
@timeisnow You just reminded me what an incredible he had. SO many great songs! My favourite? it's between "Come back to Cambden" "You have killed me" "Suedehead" "Everyday Sunday" "Reel around the fountain""Never had no one ever""Hand in glove" "one 4 me, fatty""More u ignore me""Irish blood" "Just haven't earned it" "Ask" "Paint a vulgar picture" & his version of "Moonriver" but if I HAVE to choose "The One" well, to be really predictable & boring , it would have to be THIS one. .....CONT
Now that's s tough call! From The Smiths archive it's firmly between There Is a Light and What Difference Does it Make? "All men have secrets and here is mine, so let it be known." That guitar riff, the lyrics, that falsetto section: perfect. Mozza solo? November Spawned a Monster or Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning. The latter has a vocal delivered so delicately it sounds like the man's heart was breaking. Mine was certainly broken back in '94, as a young man, and the song allowed me to wallow
@kemiladashdot@MotherFist ohhh Pris was already feeling tempted to comeback :) I even mentioned it to @mikelowe a while back.... it's OldSchool Jess, leaving the party the same way as i came...
That's 3 votes for There is a Light that never goes out, 2 votes for What difference does it make...November yes, what a surprising choice w/ Lifeguard @MotherFist. As for David @debutch Reel yes, Hand in Glove, yes, even Suedehead, it's funny but his hits were all good and his misses were 95% of the time redeeming in SOME way Camden is a great choice but for the money I like You Have Killed me, Fatty, Ask and Never Had No1 - I wonder did you know I would Say Light? At the very beginning...hmm
IS There is a Light that Never Goes out everyone's favorite tune? ? :))) I'm happy just thinking about that song xx Love the man, LOVED the band........to the end of the earth and back again
@timeisnow@debutch Music that is entwined with very life-changing moments can become an unlikely anthem, which won't resonate with others that readily. I quite like that my choice *never* crops up anywhere else and garners 'oh, really?' reactions. The track comforted me and also kept the wound open in equal measures. These days, it's just a very strong personal favourite, as what breaks your heart at the time doesn't remain the elephant in the room that it once was. Love your selections, both.
Well put @MotherFist as you suggest, when your heart breaks wide open...as when hearing a tune that resonates deeply at a certain moment in time, if you don't stay wounded then you become changed and grateful for the experience, that's what *He* does for me too :) since 1984 x
@Sid_Bonkers Hi Sid, thanks for the links. Yes, I do intend to have a look at Gods Jukebox soon. I've just had a very quick nosey around there so far. I'll sign up and have a proper look later on. :-)
@timeisnow@MotherFist I think that what set Morrissey apart from his peers was his audacity in tackling forbidden secrets of the heart, head on. A whole generation of young people had been waiting most of their lives for someone like him to come along , expressing their innermost emotions so succinctly. And if that wasn't enough, you had the sublime melodies too & Marr's exquisite playing was the cherry on the cake....a band made in Heaven......
@timeisnow@MotherFist ...JUST one last thing,..... as well as this being my favourite Moz song, it also includes, possibly, my all-time favourite couple of lines, ones that chill me to the bone......" and in the darkened underpass, I thought Oh God my chance has come at last, but then a 'strange fear' gripped me & I just couldn't ask".......these words are the very essence of longing, anguish, yearning & pain.....not superficial romantic fantasy, ....these are words of real life.....

@mikelowe I don't like Nusiki 'cos I seem to be unable to copy/paste my long boring stories on there!
debutch
@mikelowe Sorry about the Fairports Mike! I've been jamming one a day lately before the time runs out!

Saw him last year too. Was surprised at how many Smiths tracks he played. This track had grown men (ie me) weeping.
