@dutchbeeblebrox Further to my earlier note on @dutchzaphod Jan, I have acted and will continue to push the theme. The ignorance, intolerance, and bigotry in the English speaking world to whom I am connected is disappointingly profound. I hope that there is more tolerance in your part of Western Europe.
I well and truly underline your comment. As to Europe's role in the matter, I share your hope, but from what I can see there are attempts made by indiduals and local government which, through lack of real commitment by government leaders, do help a little yet are not capable in securing help for the refugees "flooding" into mainland Europe. Of course there always stupid, stupid people who'll ventilate the most awful opinions, helped by the readily available social media platforms.
(continued) This of course is by no means a European problem. Alas. But it shouln't deter authorities from making bold decisions to, in some way, alleviate the current crisis. So called 'politicians' are more concerned by petty political quarrels and fear of losing voters. And that IS a world wide problem. Yet I for one shall not stop criticizing these inhumane policies. @dutchbeeblebrox Jan, there's already been mass immigration to Britain over the last 25 years, that is not a good thing for any country, if you think it is, you're even more deluded than what you seem.
@HaveACuppaTea You're missing the point. It's not about immigration. It's about helping people -men, women and children- who by no fault of their own had to leave behind everything they had and are in dire need of, at least, food and shelter; where ever they are. There is no easy answer to what should happen in the immediate future, but right now if you're reacting like you are, you're basically saying to a drowning person I'm sorry but no can do, I might get my feet wet.
@HaveACuppaTea These people are REFUGEES, not immigrants and they certainly have enriched the UK so much. I totally agree with Jan's reply to you.
What a shame you have to resort to calling fellow jammers " deluded".
@dutchbeeblebrox Some great rhetoric there, a lot of pathos. It is about immigration. I'm sure there are genuine refugees that I don't doubt, and they're definitely welcome (at least if they're not diametrically opposed to Western values) but many won't be genuine, refugees don't demand or choose there refuge.
If you are personally putting up a refugee family in your middle-class home in the suburb then I commend you, but how about giving a thought to the welfare of the homeless, the unemployed, and old-age pensioners in our own countries first.
@mikelowe Yes Mike, they have enriched the UK, but this is not the 1950's, it's a different world now. My paternal grandparents were immigrants to the UK before you go on your moral crusade. I'm not against refugees or immigrants but I'm looking at the bigger picture.
We'll have to agree to disagree, anyway, hopefully the future is bright, and my concerns are unfounded. I'm sure we're all a bit deluded at the end of the day.
