'Help!' gets a short-shift in the Beatles overall discography, especially in light of their later catalogue. For one, it's pop, and it's also a soundtrack album (their second). Yet if anything, 'Help' demonstrates The Beatles' mastery of the pop form. "The Night Before" is a one-off in their catalogue that features some of McCartney's finest vocal tracking, superb rhythmic changes, driving organ work by Lennon and a concise double-octave guitar solo by Messers. McCartney and Harrison.

From the Help! film and album released in 1965 and written mainly by Paul. Features John on electric piano and some great guitar playing. Stories differ as to who played the two lead guitar pieces, some say Paul, double-tracked. Others say, it was a joint George and Paul effort - either way it's pretty FAB!! Sadly, this is one of the many Beatles songs that was never performed live by the band. Macca played it at a gig in 2011, saying it was the first time he had performed the song in concert!!! We think this is an over-looked gem. Sorry, this is a clip from the film, so the track is slightly interrupted in the middle - all the straight versions are restricted!!!
