Strange Loop by Liz Phair

“Happy 20th, Exile. I got up out of bed early just to share in the Mefi lovefest thread. Ultimately "Dead Shark" and "Batmobile" became the play-at-least-a-few-times-every-single-month-of-your-life,-years-on-end personal anthems/lullabies, but this album conjures up such a strange mix of squirming nostalgia at my naivete and confusion and enthusiasm at the time and affection. One of the first "grown up lady" albums that resonated with me--most music was still shapeless blobby blur to me then and this was sharp relief. 7th grade, too early and clueless (I played "Glory" at the dinner table for my parents, for fuck's sake!), all I can do looking back is smile.”
