@vomitsunami Yeah, I actually haven't heard of any other bands rising to such prominence through college radio. Something about Yuka and Miho? That they were weird enough? Catchy enough? Equally esoteric and exoteric?
there were a lot of bands that got "college radio big" that were probably ignored elsewhere, but in the days when every piece of music didn't exist online, it was a pretty significant chunk of listeners...I thought Cibo Matto were a little too self-conciously quirky for their own good, but was worn down into liking them through sheer repetition...I mean, who doesn't want to hear more songs about food--?
