Holly’s original, recorded solo in his Greenwich Village apartment two months before his death, was subsequently lumbered with overdubs by his label and posthumously released (as the B-side of “Peggy Sue Got Married”) in the summer of 1959. Holly is of course unsurpassable in any form, but Eric’s version of the song is a better production.”
