"Raw Power" was the third studio album by American rock band Iggy & The Stooges, from which this Jam is taken. Released on February 7th 1973 through Columbia Records, it was famously (and poorly!) remixed by David Bowie, following Iggy Pop's failure to nail it first time. (*Note: I can personally state from experience that the final mix as put down by Bowie was not fantastic.

The 12" vinyl copy I bought in 1973 had hardly any bass guitar volume at all - my mates thought I was mad when I started playing this to them!). In subsequent modern CD releases, Iggy Pop has managed to restore the mix to something approximating what he had wanted in the first place.

Though not initially commercially successful, "Raw Power" gained a cult following in the immediate years following its release and, like its predecessor (1970's "Fun House"), is generally considered an influential forerunner of punk rock. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_Power

Johnny Marr, of The Smiths fame, named this as his favorite riff.
