I'm all for reappraisal so when I saw the likes of Jools Holland and assorted muso cronies lining up and paying homage to the genius of Jeff Lynne, I thought, maybe I've been a bit unfair on the old geezer - maybe they weren't as totally shite as I thought they were back in the day. So, I spun a few of the discs, sat back and listened carefully... nope, still totally shite.

Haven't heard this in years so I thought I'd give it an airing. "The Diary of Horace Wimp" is off the ELO album Discovery, written by Jeff Lynne and released in 1979 as a single. The song describes a week in the life of a repressed man who nevertheless overcomes his shy nature with the help of "a voice from above." The day Saturday is omitted – this is because, as explained by Jeff Lynne: "'The football match is played on a Saturday".
