I love this - it's great to see that old ad again. - and you clearly have not been listening to Charley - it may be your downfall! Remember the Pet Ambulance will just keep you in for the op.
@lindatee Please no.....and I bet you've got the pruning shears sharpened you cruel and ruthless.. ..........oh how's Caliban? I hope well
I know...this is such a great track ...I still remember hearing it for the first time...I was in HMV down Oxford Street and thoght...Wow! Yeah those old public information/safety ads were great....where are they now?
I have a cockney screwdriver - not garden sheers - and I don't do anything irreversible!! Caliban is fine - doesn't seem to be affected - hope he can still hold his own in the garden though - its tough out there.... We still need those safety ads - like those learn to swim ones - remember them?
Apparently Kenny Everett did the voice of the Charly. And I reckon the mother is a cross dresser with a wig, that hair looks very dodgy. She goes from a brunette to a blonde very quickly, for a start.
They were great -- I just spent 20mins watching old public info films - didn't know all of them!1 was just gonna post you the learn to swim one - that diaglue is still in my head " Meet Mike - he swims like a fish" . . . clunk click? - you can't really think of JS now without cringing!!!
@DavidShepherd@philipnareike I never knew Kenny Everett was Charly's voice . I don't trust that mum anyway - she was always leaving matches about and not watching her kid. He couldve got in all sorts of trouble if it wasn't for Charly!!!
Hi @lindatee ! I was just about to ask you about Caliban aswell, glad he's doing fine! Now, @philipnareike and @lindatee I'm finding this public ads soooo cute!!!
@lindatee yeah! like that joe and petunia... omg!!! don't get me wrong, but I really have to make one joke about it: now i reeeeally feel like I'm more acquainted with British culture! ok, that's it! =D
@lindatee is Tufty the squirrel??? I know that one from Life on Mars! ....the thing is, it's so different than what we have here... and believe me - that one, about not leaving your trash behind you - that would still be pretty necessary in Brazil... BIG issue here... =/
@BladeRunner it's an issue here - in the part of London I live - if people dont want anything it ends up on the street - sofas, fridges, mattresses - anything
@lindatee oh I see... same here! but we also have issues with people trashing the streets, like, really litter (i never know the correct word for it). Using the street as if it was a trash can.
@lindatee Oh, now you got me laughing!!! Let me tell you, if you have football - that's good already! (i do like football a lot). And if the chicken takeaways are good, even better! I'm in a fairly clean and educated part of my country - but I can't seem to find even a decent italian restaurant/takeway... I don't know what this people have against a bit of pepper and salt...!
@lindatee@BladeRunner Did they really die in a car crash?! Good to see my page is being used for culinary exchanges again..but Jess, the scary public information films are the ones I remember...and they were real scary for a young kid to see... believe me......but I made sure I never played near water..... http://youtu.be/m0xmSV6aq0g
@lindatee I have a game I play...seeing how many Fried Chicken shop names I can spot..they seem to have taken over the streets....along with the 99p shops...no 97p Shops...I saw a 95p shop once...(honestly)
@philipnareike i'm sorry... i turn everything into food talk... whoever reads me must think i'm the woman version of Man vs. Food or something creepy like that, ewww! Ok, I haven't even begin to see the video and I'm already laughing at "scary british public information films" title!
@philipnareike i was just about to ask you - this AWFUL thing was on tv?! like anytime???!!! It's scary as hell! (i'd be cryin watching something like that!)
@BladeRunner They were on during the afternoon..just before the kid's TV started...I remember watching most of them as a tiny child.....I never forgot them....they left a mark..fear was the way back then..
@philipnareike I can imagine being a child and terrified by those films! I'm trying to remember if we had something similar to that, but I really don't recall anything THAT intense...
@lindatee@BladeRunner There's a few other ones that are equally horrific,..there's also a 20 minute kids public info film about the dangers of railways...it's really bizarre and haunting. I never saw that one as a child but my friend did and said he was so traumatised by it he never forgot it..on a lighter note I read apparently Aunt Petunia's name from Harry Potter was inspired by Petunia from these cartoons..well I never!
@BladeRunner But The Green Cross Code Man wasn't scary..Ithink he came a bit later when they perhaps realised scaring the kids witless wasn't the right way....I once saw him when he was filming an ad. Dave Prowse...he's the same guy who was Darth Vader . I was once saw him give a talk at a film convention...lovely man.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Prowse
@philipnareike I agree - when I saw the Green XCodeMan, I realized it should have been the guys realizing it had to be something more friendly, not frightening... Oh, I liked the "Darth Farmer" he does looks like a nice person! And it's hilarious to imagine Darth Vader having a country accent!

@BeeBee But you need to work on your vocal technique....then maybe you'll get an audition...there's a lot of interest for the re-make
