@thisismymistake I'm afraid I have a soft spot for that Pitney song - it will always remind me of my first schoolgirl crush - unrequited love and all that... Then again for that reason alone I should despise that song...
@thisismymistake@MadameZia I think it's true that Pitney didn't want to do 'that Pitney song' with Marc Almond initially because of Marc's ..er...reputation, and he thought some people might think they were gay lovers singing a duet....I think that's true anyway....:)
@philipnareike@MadameZia The original pressing of the album contained Marc's version without Gene. It was just as bad. I jammed about Marc's forgotten output earlier this year, it still grates me that he got back into the charts with that abomination. Rowena, original or cover?
@thisismymistake the cover! I had a thing about Marc Almond back then and I loved his album 'The Stars We Are' so it followed that I liked 'that ' single as well - I had the mickey taken out of me something chronic at school when I disclosed to my friends that I had bought the 7 inch single but I didn't care and I still don't - and as an aside I had no idea he was gay until years later - naive or denial who knows?
@MadameZia I remember at school Marc Almond was the butt of many a horrid joke. I suppose Soft cell started up and were huge with Tainted Love when I was a young teen and school was full of horrid little boys
