@MadameZia I recall t's quite a disturbing film. Apparently Hitchcock's first choice to play Barry Foster's character the rapist/murderer was Michael Caine but he turned down the part as he didn't want to be associated with it. Also, Helen Mirren turned down a part in it.
@MadameZia I don't think Sean Connery is evil in Marnie I've seen that one but I don't remember much about it to be honest. I don't think it's one of his most memorable.
@philipnareike@MadameZia imo Sean Connery is a bit of a bully with Marnie, until he understands that she really does have a problematic past. He tries to help her overcome it, but his methods are a bit harsh. In Frenzy a body is found in a potato sack!
@MadameZia My pleasure ;) I've watched Marnie quite a few times! On the other hand, I think I've only seen Frenzy once, can hardly remember anything besides the potato sack w/body ...
@BladeRunner Oh thanks, it's been a long time since I saw it. But he was not evil, was he?
Yes, I remember the potato sack....that was back when Covent Garden was a proper market....not anymore
@philipnareike no no, not evil! He's absolutely intringued by her (and after falls in love), so he kinda push her buttons, but he's never mean to her... Aaahhh got it, those were the times when Covent Garden still had a "rustic" charm!!! hahaha
@BladeRunner ....yeah rustic charm....with unusual surprises in your potato sacks....nowadays it's full of tourists and buskers and painted performers standing on boxes
@MadameZia omg, he even took pictures!!! talk about mementos... @philipnareike yeah, I know... such pasteurized version of the real London... where are the potato sacks???
@MadameZia blargh!!! I've never heard of him before, but I'd say he probably had some technical and skilled training, due to his M.O. so, it's really a surprise/no surprise he was a police officer. What always amazes me is when they think they might have a more "humane" method. That only shows how bizarre it's their way of thinking...
@MadameZia@philipnareike argh, so dismembering and cooking "parts" it's getting trendy... here in Brazil a few months ago a couple done the some to the apartment bulding super... but instead of using a cooking pot they've used the bbq grill place...
@philipnareike haha, punching them is fun!!! I put them back in the oven, though, instead of a frying pan, then I put the coarse salt, black pepper and rosemary - it gets some lovely crispy bits. and olive oil after i take out of the oven.
@BladeRunner Mmmmmmmm...lovely crispy bits.....mmmmmm.... ..lovely.....lovely.....LOVELY!!! (that's definately my Word of the Day)
like dauphinoise potatoes.....cream and cheese and thinly sliced potatoes......lovely....
@philipnareike ha! here we have our own version of a dauphinoise potatoes - instead of cream AND cheese we use our "requeijão", which is very brazilian, and it gives a LOVELY texture to the dish... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Requeij%C3%A3o

@philipnareike Marnie would appear to be another one (again I haven't watched it) where Sean Connery is pure evil...

@philipnareike oh ok - I need to be more wary of what I read then...
philipnareike
@MadameZia I'm pretty sure Sean Connery marries Marnie (Tippi Hedron) who has a disturbed past and tries to understand why she is the way she is.
MadameZia
@philipnareike no you're right I've just Wicki'd it

@BladeRunner and if you pop to Camden then those surprises can be known to appear in your bins as well... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-202812/Camden-Ripper-jailed-life.html

MadameZia
@BladeRunner and my last morbid share for the day http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Nilsen and I've seen the cooking pot and stove which he used to cook his victims...
MadameZia
@BladeRunner the ironic thing is Nilsen trained as a Police Officer
philipnareike
@MadameZia You've seen the cooking pot! and stove! They're not in a museum are they?! Where are they?
BladeRunner

BladeRunner
@philipnareike @MadameZia see?? that was what talking about, hehehehe
MadameZia
@BladeRunner he was ex-army too which probably explains his 'skill' it's not something your average British Bobby is trained in...
philipnareike
@MadameZia @BladeRunner But this was in the paper just yesterday http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2014/oct/08/mayang-prasetyo-killing-weapon-found-say-brisbane-police
MadameZia
@philipnareike they're in the Black Museum (now known as the Crime Museum) at NSY which sadly is not open to the public
philipnareike
@MadameZia Nilson's still alive isn't he? What's NSY?
MadameZia
@philipnareike @BladeRunner 'a domestic matter which got out of hand' understatement of the month that!
philipnareike
@BladeRunner @MadameZia Bluurrgghh...Can't we just talk about potatoes now please....What's your favourite style of cooked potato?
MadameZia
@philipnareike yes he is and NSY is New Scotland Yard but you knew that really
philipnareike
@MadameZia OK...I've never heard the abbreviation before....What else is in there?
MadameZia
@philipnareike @BladeRunner hahaha I like loads: mashed, roasted, baked, sautéed, crisps..
philipnareike
@MadameZia Potato fingers aren't bad either
MadameZia
@philipnareike it's been a while since I've been there but I vaguely remember some Kray twin stuff and the noose which was used to hang Ruth Ellis

@MadameZia @philipnareike have you guys ever tried "batatas à murro" (punched potatoes) it's a portuguese recipe... the picture isn't pretty (or at least, when I make it, it looks more pretty) but that's it http://favouritefamilyrecipes.blogspot.com.br/2010/03/batatas-murro-portuguese-punched-baked.html
BladeRunner
@MadameZia @philipnareike that's more how it looks: https://airtonbc.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/g_460879_0001.jpg
philipnareike
@BladeRunner Ha...never had them.....looks interesting...we normally just bake them but I like the idea of punching them! I'll try it!
BladeRunner
@philipnareike haha, punching them is fun!!! I put them back in the oven, though, instead of a frying pan, then I put the coarse salt, black pepper and rosemary - it gets some lovely crispy bits. and olive oil after i take out of the oven.

BladeRunner
@philipnareike wouldn't it be lovely?!
BladeRunner
@philipnareike http://youtu.be/wq_3J68ab_M french version, though our french won't be necessary (chech the 2nd comment,that had me laughing)
BladeRunner
@philipnareike lovely!
alisonsghost
@philipnareike My favourite way to cook potatoes is to take the eyes out 1st.....
alisonsghost
Also think Frenzy might have been better with Michael Caine - Barry Foster and his neck tie don't quite work, somehow. Great jam though.
philipnareike
@BladeRunner Ha...yes, I'm having flashbacks now to that scene...the rigormortis.....it's a shame....not enough murders in Covent Garden anymore...
