Brilliant! Jethro and I are big Doctor Who fans. Baker for me (he lives in Rye) and Tennant for Jethro (he doesn't more's the pity). What do you think of Capaldi?

@philipnareike @BladeRunner HaWHaWHaW!! ...I don't know why but I find this bizarre & surreal tale just SO funny! ...Can't explain why it's tickling me so much!! =D.........btw, no fear with my nocturnal cravings..it's under control ( Tho' the other night, I DID dream that I had taken up the 'pipe'...like Hugh Hefner )

This reminds me of the paddington event when I was a kid... it's like your story but the complete other way around. Paddington aired on Saturdays I didn't really like Paddington but childrens shows where few so I watched everything I could get my hands on... even the cartoon on the news about when the sun rises and sets... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-4YxzTx3_Q We were really starving for toons back then, life wasn't easy but I made it....

Anyway.. this time I woke up a bit late and my mom allowed me to have breakfast in front of the telly, so I'd be able to see him. She also made me this perfect toast.. butter lightly melted, marmalade and cheese.. It is the most perfect toast I've ever had.. and just like a junkie - trying to get the same kick as the the first time... whenever I make toasts I try to make it just like she did it that day. Since then whenever I hear about Paddington I think about toast and remember that day.

BladeRunner

But Phil, I totally sympathize with you on the sprat situation... I went through something similar when I was about 8 or 9, with cauliflower... and the worst part is that, after all the drama of the 1st try, it was decided we would have cauliflower for a whole week, prepared in every possible way - just to make sure we would eat the damn thing. So during one week, lunch was a nightmare, I'd start crying just to look at that horrible thing. Hours sitting on that table....

BladeRunner

Why do adults do this things to children?! Well, i can't stand to look at cauliflower to this day, let alone the smell...

BladeRunner

@debutch };) I'd never had a pipe, but have found that cigars (a good cigar, of course) can be good - but very, veeeery occasionally

6 years, 2 months ago

debutch

@BladeRunner Ooh yeh , I DO like a woman with a cigar....Dunno what it symbolises but what ever it is , it does the trick for me!........btw , to me , it sounds suspiciously like you are talking YOURSELF into having one!.....Well , if you do , then DON'T blame me!! ;-)

@debutch hahaha, not a chance, i'm VERY able to restrain myself!!! =)

This is brill - I loved/love Dr Who - although I haven't seen it since David Tennant really (I'm with Jethro her @abigail.deeks - I'm keen to see Calpaldi though - keep missing it now.) @philipnareike What was is about sprats that parents forced upon us. My worst thing was offal - I couldn't even look at it. My mum used to cook hearts and I had to stand all the place mats up around my plate so I couldn't see them.. . .Ewwwwwww!

@BladeRunner i think it must be in an old dated "parenting" manuel. probably courtesy of Dr Spock (I think he's the reason I had to be stuck in the garden in my pram all day) . Ours was mainly a money issue though. There was one meal - you ate it or you went hungry. I gave my kids a choice (probably cos I didn't have one) . They were both incredibly fussy eaters.

6 years, 2 months ago

BladeRunner

@lindatee haha, oh my, poor you - about the pram!!! from what I can recall, there were other options of food on the table, is just that we'd have to eat what was on our plate - which is ok and fair. but to decide to keep repeating day after day, with 2 children weeping and begging not to eat it, seems to me just a bit sadistic power display... The cauliflower week is famous tale in the family! (though my mother still denies having done that) yeah, right... hahaha =D

@abigail.deeks I have watched the new Capaldi ones...I was pleased when they picked him and I think he's pretty good, although I don't think the writing's been all that great ..there's been a few dodgy episodes.....I think he'll be better next series.....(I hope)

philipnareike

@debutch Please....please......I BEG of you....DO NOT enter my dreams tonight dressed as a pipe smoking fishmonger and try to force - feed me sprats.......

6 years, 2 months ago

philipnareike

@Avante That's a lovely story....and I even enjoyed that cartoon sun! I think it's great you remembering that toast and marmalade on that special Paddington day.....there's loads of big Paddington Bears all over London at the moment....a 'Paddington trail'...each one is painted differently by artists...I saw one of them the other day!

@BladeRunner This caulifour business......Why on earth did you have cauliflour EVERY DAY for week! So.....cauliflour is to you what rhubarb is to me! But I have to admit it.....I like caulifour...and especially I love cauliflour cheese! I bought that strange new green cauli the other daywith the conical shaped florets the other day...do you have them?

@comedyjam I believe (though not 100% ) that this was an actual Hamlet advert, but was never actually shown on TV

6 years, 2 months ago

BladeRunner

@philipnareike it wasn't my choice, I was obliged!!! Otherwise I wasn't allowed to leave the table...

6 years, 2 months ago

BladeRunner

ohhh, i don't even look at it... i'd have to check at the supermarket hehehe, but wouldn't it be just... broccoli?

6 years, 2 months ago

philipnareike

@lindatee Haha!....my Dad loved pig's trotters! Thankfully he never forced us to eat them! ....but I have eaten them in a Chinese Restaurant and quite liked them.....I remember....they were spelt wrong on the menu...as 'Troiters'....they're very tender......mmmmmmm...... I sometimes have the chicken feet when I eat Dim Sum......look! you can have fun with feet.....when I was in Canada eating Dim Sum, a friend picked up a chicken foot and started moving it up and down gently and said: 'Look!..

@philipnareike argh... oh, here I haven't seen those, but in Lux yes, I didn't knew what it was... it's kinda cute actually.

6 years, 2 months ago

philipnareike

@BladeRunner But at least your cauliflour didn't have liitle bugs in them.....My Grandparents had a big vegetable garden and they grew caulis.....there was always little back bits in the crevices....and the lettuce!! Good Lord there was insects crawling on that every time as it had never been washed properly.......and what did my Dad say....'Eat it! You need the extra meat!'

6 years, 2 months ago

BladeRunner

what you had with rhubarb I had it with mangoes - but then, it was my choice... spent summer vacation eating mangoes at my grandma's house... still have problems with it...

6 years, 2 months ago

BladeRunner

@philipnareike kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk yeah! There's protein in lettuce!!!! but yep, I know... sometimes when you buy bio/organic lettuce, there's some 'protein' in it... Eeewwww

@philipnareike We completely agree with you, Jethro and I. A great choice of actor but some poorly written episodes. I love Clara too and think she works better with Capaldi.
