Even if I didn't love this song (which I do) I'd give you all the hearts in the world for that photo. As a 13 year-old metalhead, TV was my music God (that voice!). As an 18 year-old indie kid, Peel was my music God (those records played at the wrong speed!)
@simonp Yes, that photo is a classic.....we always had the Radio 1 calendars and I remember this picture......''Right.......John Peel and Tommy Vance....can you dress up as clowns for the month of April please.....''
@philipnareike it's probably 15 years old now but you know you're on the side of the author when he says
'The only person at the station I didn’t much like was the new boy, Chris Moyles. He was brought in from Capital initially to do the early morning shift, but the management clearly thought he would go far. He struck me as an egotistical oaf with only moderate talent, a view I still cling to in the face of his great success.'
....cracking maniacs----know the story that ''peeley'' met JFK. when he was working on a dallas newspaper,,,,,and was there on the day JFK was assisnated,,, even wandered into the dallas PD when oswald was being moved about,,,,,,incredible tale...JP had an insiders view of history....sadly missed yur man peeley

Have you ever read Simon Garfield's story of Radio One? An absolute must an eye-opener on the egos of the DJs and controllers alike. Worth reading again in light of Operation Yewtree http://www.simongarfield.com/pages/books/the_nations_favourite.htm

Wonderful choice. John Peel was my evening listening as a teenager too. Introduced me to so many bands that I still love today!
