I'm sure that good ole Maggie Thatcher (hell roast her cotton socks) had a controlling stake in the BBC at that time #facistgroovethang
wouldn't play for me, so I've added 4 plays to your tally
@kemiladashdot Bah - here are a couple more links, one to the video again and the other to a live version. Hopefully one will work where the main video won't.
@BarneyRubble Here's an interesting list of songs that have been banned at one time or another. I particularly like the list related to the First Gulf War.
@pjcj Wow, that's an extensive list... and some very tenuous links with war of any kind. I love the fact that the BBC won't admit to even having a banned list :-)
@pjcj Great list. I bought Massive Attacks's 1st album back then, but my copy's just called 'Massive'
Thanks for the links. 'Shipbuilding' performed by Robert Wyatt and written by Elvis Costello also had an impact during The Falklands conflict.
@Bukowski I seem to recall Annie Nightingale doing a show on that subject 30 years on.
Aha, here it is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01kgl1z
And I'm sure that Annie Nightingale used to play Six Months In A Leaky Boat anyway ...
@pjcj She did. Great woman.
Wouldnt work for me either said restricted by video owner or something but the link under your introduction worked perfectly,,,,,,,very odd!!
@polly7923 Excellent! Hope you enjoy it :)
@pjcj not able to open either on Ipad or PC but would have liked anyway!
@pcjc Well, during the Falklands bash, the Beeb lost market share but the commercial stations just kept on spinning on. The BFBS however were even more controlling than the Beeb.
great track. Pity it won't play...
ted leo does a good version of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qovcJ7XC3vo
