Alice Coltrane was probably the only really notable harpist in the history of jazz. She initially played piano, replacing the great McCoy Tyner in her husband's ( John ) band in 1966 until his death only a year later. She then played with her own bands with her music becoming increasingly meditative and spiritual. She also began to follow Indian music and religions. The excellent ( same titled) LP that this track is from is surprisingly accessible for one taking risks in the name of experimental jazz. ( Pharoah Sanders on soprano sax )   21
