“this album took a while to convince me--i love the sad/awful opening song's "you let me down sometimes/and only i know how" but the vocals are an acquired taste, for me a mix of both too cocteau twins-reminiscent and that specific mid-aughts goth-poppy thing (like where that breakthrough fever ray song veers) that feels too showy/theatrical to come off (again, just to me anyway) as truly intimate in its sorrow. but there's a lot in the small things here to like, and eventually i found i did. i need to check out her earlier nosier project HSY sometime.”
