From the 1920s-60s, you could scarcely swing a trombone in Pittsburgh's Hill District without hitting a jazz giant or two...(well, I wasn't born yet, so I never got to test this hypothesis)...the starting drummer for everyone's jazz all-star team, Art Blakey, was one...bandleader, hard-bop innovator, and relentless engine of rhythm...if you could hack it in his band for any amount of time, you might as well get those "jazz legend" business cards printed up...#pittsburghmusicweek
