So many songs tell stories we recognize in some grand scheme, The Edmund Fitzgerald, Kennedy dying, Mr. Bojangles etc.. This song tells a story that is deeply personal - kind of like Suzanne Vega's Luca, but better. More meaningful to me anyway. I have always loved this song for it's combination of sweet melody and melancholy. Also, it plays at the strangest times for me - almost spiritual.
