John Lennon acknowledged that this riff underpins "I Feel Fine" and "Day Tripper", while standing on the shoulders of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say". Parker says they are riffs on Dizzy Gillespie's "Manteca", written with Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo, a wild and uninhibited percussionist. Which circles us to "Moby Dick", John Bonham's party piece with Zeppelin, clearly based on the Bobby Parker riff, not that Jimmy Page or Peter Grant would ever acknowledge that, because, y'know, royalties.   1

RIP Bobby Parker, 1937-2013. You may think the riff sounds familiar... he played it here first, in 1961.   5

The riff-shaking inspiration for The Beatles' I Feel Fine AND Led Zep's Moby Dick.
