England Made Me by Cath Carroll
“Cath Carroll's debut album, 'England Made Me' was named after a Graham Greene novel. This album was recorded partly in Sao Paulo and this title track features the unmistakable sound of the cuica, the Brazilian musical instrument that, and I quote David 'Butch' Carter: ''sounds like an exotic bird being strangled''. I've just been reading the sleeve notes on the LP and the guy playing the cuica is called, incredibly: Oswaldinho da Cuica! The album was engineered by Steve Albini. This is my favourite track from it: http://youtu.be/r-AmWXR5iI4?list=AL94UKMTqg-9AoB7_XwokTP1XRkEflrWNl”
