Oh, to have been the guy yelling "Oh yeah!" Instead, I'll yell "Oh yeah" and the librarian shushes me.

Sorry I couldn't find a video of Mingus and his band playing this. It's truly a masterpiece. The band consists of Charles Mingus (bass), John Handy (alto sax), Booker Ervin (tenor sax), Shafi Hadi (tenor sax), Horace Parlan (piano), Dannie Richmond (drums).

Gah!! The frenetic first 3 1/2 minutes, the crazy awesome funk/soul that comes from out of nowhere at 3:35, the interplay with the drum solo, the little gospel melody line right in the closing seconds...just, everything. Nothing to be added, nothing to be taken away - a perfect work...imo ;)

Somehow it took me many years to get right with this record. But I'm right with it now. Yes, indeed.
Jazz music never really resonated with me until I heard Mingus. He was my gateway into that realm. A true musical genius. Enjoy
