What I probably was listening to most this week...40 years ago (Part 2). Like I said, as a trombone player, I loved "horn rock." The album (Chicago VI) had been out a few weeks and this track was a big hit during August 1973. This week 40 years ago, for the first time, I bought tix for a concert (I believe they were $6), and drove 30 miles into Kansas City (with a date!) to see Chicago (with opener The Pointer Sisters, who had just released their first hit, Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can"). I think I need to apologize to Vicki, who has been my friend for more than 40 years and I hope will remain so after this confession: I can remember Peter Cetera wearing a plaid jump suit that night, but I can't remember what she wore. The Ides of March was too obvious, so here's another Chicago band with lots of horns
Just back in yesterday evening from a 7 day vacation in Chicago. Saw a lot of architecture (Robie House, Frank Lloyd Wright home & Studio, Farnsworth house, SC Johnson Headquarters, Wingspread), toured the Sprecher and Lagunitas breweries, went to 5 tiki bars, Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Contemporary Art, ate a ton, did a 3 hour guided bike tour, and met up with my old friends Grace and Christian on different nights. We're sore and exhausted and glad to be home. Thought about Leeloo some, miss her lots, and still have feelings to process that I just had to put aside for the trip, but I'm feeling stronger every day.
