New Cibo Matto in time for Valentine's day. Digging the Acid Jazz.
Hotel Valentine, Cibo Matto's 2014(!) album, is a conceptual narrative centred on a ghost girl who haunts the hotel, eating off room service trays and observing the guests. #spoopy I wondered what Cibo Matto c.2014 would sound like, and the answer is that, well, they sound like Cibo Matto: not the 90s band encased in amber, but like artists who have a clear sense of the parameters of their shared project, who are also organically informed by everything else they've done since. This one, for instance, makes me think of Yuka Honda's lengthy stint in the Plastic Ono Band, and the SXSW show I saw them play with Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs.
