In another time and place, my mother one day asked me in an exasperated tone, what John Fogerty was saying in this song. I told her it was about his frustration at being an artist no one paid attention to. My mother knew that, but why, she asked, does he keep saying, "Oh Lord, I'm suckin' on a dried up prune"? I'll never understand how she hears that, but I'll certainly never forget it. Outside of that absurdity, I love the desperation and loneliness of this song.   8
