Athens, Georgia's Drive-By Truckers recently released their tenth studio album, English Oceans, the first since bassist Shonna Tucker's departure. It's grown on me slowly, but surely. Of the band's two singer-songwriters I usually favor Mike Cooley; even though the record is being hyped as a Cooley showcase, this Patterson Hood song is the centerpiece.  The Hawkins in the title is inspired by a character from the 2014 Willy Vlautin novel The Free.   2
