Waking Up by Elastica
“I perhaps didn't plan my #ABCofPunk .... E is not so easy to do. There was Eddie and the Hot Rods and The Expoited. I didn't see either. I'd hoped to squeeze Echo and the Bunnymen in here, I saw them 1980/81 in Brighton. Bought some red high top Cons the same day. Still wear Converse, not the same ones though. I thought you may not let me get away with the Bunnymen, they were more post - new wave/punk. So Elastica were successfully sued by The Stranglers for this track, the former having to forego 40% of their royalties for the album this track was taken from. Waking Up or No More Heroes? What do you think? Oh, I spoke to Ian McCulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen after the gig, he was casually standing by the exit of the venue, largely unnoticed. I can't remember what we spoke about, well it was only 33 years ago.”

One of my favorite songs ever, of all time.
