The vocals' upfront prettiness goes to war with the instrumental: a cavernous, menacing thing, like the spaces that loom under "Pump Up The Jam" or "Rhythm Is A Dancer" (heard either of those on a good sound system recently?). The tension is immense, barometric, such that when the balance finally tips, you know in the music video the storm must break -- the sprinklers must go off -- someone must take a crowbar to the fire hydrants to the ecstatic approbation of the city's residents. (It's the latter, as it happens. The f(x) gang also parked a pink tank in the street, for some reason.)
