Everyone Needs Love by Foxygen

“F is for Foxygen. Taken from their 2014 double album …and Star Power, Foxygen created a multi-layered psych-out with a multitude of guests ranging from The Flaming Lips to Of Montreal from White Fence to Bleached. This is the penultimate track which features The Flaming Lips (honestly, I do not hear them). This is a mammoth album that I bought at the end of 2014 and I’m still listening to it and processing it. At times it is fantastic, at other times I’ve not a clue how they got from there to here.”

disregarding a lot of the high-minded criticism I hear/read about this Foxygen album, ...And Star Power, with its halitosis child-attempted Zeppelin riffs and OCD songwriting and ashtray production channeling Lee Hazlewood entombed with a Wurlitzer, even disregarding what I might have said about such an album in another time and place, I'm enjoying the absolute hell out of it - a bit of Wings reference, the Rundgren shout-outs, they persuade me that McCartney and many other pop legends have also crammed LPs full of more half-developed ideas than it seemed they could hold, and these were classics. This album does just that and IS that, infused with a glorious, unashamed 21st Century psychosis that lends hefty power to its liberties and titillation.
