“Folk music and storytelling types tend to elude me, but not Gabriel, one of the local scene's great unheralded talents. This song is so simple, yet so all-encompassing. A big idea in an unassuming package. Musically, it's a pretty basic set-up, but it's songs like this that remind me that that's kind of the point of folk music, to let the songs speak for themselves. Still, Gabriel is himself such a unique soul that you can't help listening one way or another, I think. This isn't his best song, by the way, but it's my favorite.”
