The tiredest music in the world. Feels like it's too much of an effort even to sing sometimes.

The February 2007 @MOJOmagazine covermount is sweet relief, as for what feels like the first time it isn't a genre exercise (or, less common but still tiresome, a tribute compilation). Instead, in somewhat morbid and corny fashion, it's a selection of "15 hand-picked tracks of hurt, pain & despair" in apparent honor of their Joy Division cover feature. It includes a variety of strong picks ranging from Nina Simone to Jarvis Cocker; has introduced me to acts I didn't know, such as Chris Farlowe; and has made me see that I can like bands I've heard about but have long written off as likely boring (Elbow). The disc has many strong points; but, I've been looking for an excuse to Jam a song by Galaxie 500 since seeing Dean & Britta perform their songs in concert back in April, and here is my legitimate chance. This cut is from the northeast U.S. group's 1990 swansong LP, This Is Our Music.   1
